The Western Red Cedar Campaign is a project of the Coastal Rainforest Coalition designed to stop the destruction of the ancient cedar forests in Canada. Western Red Cedar is one of British Columbia's natural treasures. These statuesque trees have grown for thousands of years in the lush valley floors located throughout the Great Bear Rainforest. Now, these sacred trees are being clearcut at an alarming rate, and the pristine valley ecosystems in which they thrive are being irreparably damaged. In particular, three logging companies are responsible for this destruction: International Forest Products (Interfor), West Fraser, and Western Forest Products. Only 20% of the world's ancient forests remain intact; British Columbia's west coast is home to one-quarter of the last remaining temperate forests and these are disappearing quickly. Tragically, almost every untouched watershed in British Columbia is slated for road building or clearcut logging within the next ten years. Don't buy Western Red Cedar. Send a message to these logging companies that cutting down ancient forests is morally wrong and bad for business. Because if we don't buy products made from old-growth trees, they won't cut them down.
